To light a gas fireplace, follow these steps:
Make sure the gas valve is open. Check the main gas valve to ensure that the gas is turned on.
Locate the control knob. The control knob is usually located on the bottom front of the fireplace.
Turn the control knob to the “off” position. Turn the knob to the “off” position and wait for five minutes before proceeding to the next step. This allows any gas in the area to dissipate.
Turn the control knob to the “pilot” position. Press and hold the knob down in the “pilot” position to allow gas to flow.
Light the pilot light. While holding the knob down, use a lighter or match to ignite the pilot light. You should see a small blue flame.
Hold the knob down for 30 seconds. Continue holding the knob down for 30 seconds to allow the thermocouple to heat up.
Release the knob. After 30 seconds, release the control knob. The pilot light should stay lit.
Turn the knob to the “on” position. Once the pilot light is lit, turn the control knob to the “on” position to light the fireplace.
Adjust the flame. Use the control knob to adjust the flame height to your desired level.
Note: If the pilot light does not stay lit or if you smell gas, turn off the gas valve and call a professional to inspect and repair the fireplace.
