Allegheny Mountains

TheĀ Allegheny Mountain Range, informally theĀ Alleghenies, is part of the vastĀ Appalachian Mountain RangeĀ of theĀ Eastern United StatesĀ andĀ CanadaĀ and posed a significant barrier to land travel in less developed eras. The Allegheny Mountains have a northeast–southwest orientation, running for about 400 miles (640Ā km) from north-centralĀ Pennsylvania, southward through westernĀ MarylandĀ and easternĀ West Virginia.
