Saint Anne was the mother of Mary and the maternal grandmother of Jesus, according to Christian apocryphal and Islamic tradition.
The canonical gospels do not mention Mary’s mother.
In literature, Anne’s and Joachim’s names are only found in New Testament apocrypha, with the Gospel of James (written likely about 150) being the oldest to mention them.
The Quran mentions but does not name Mary’s mother.
