Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

Allegheny is located in the southwest of the U.S. of Pennsylvania.

Allegheny is included in the , PA Statistical Area, and in the  Designated Market Area.

Allegheny was the first in to be given a  name.

It was named after the Lenape  for the Allegheny River. The meaning of “Allegheny” is uncertain.

It is usually said to mean “fine ”. Stewart says that the name may come from a Lenape account of an ancient mythical tribe called “Allegewi”, who lived along the before being taken over by the Lenape.
